Beechwood Group - Decoupage

Decoupage, which comes
from the French word "decouper" means ‘to cut out’,
this form of art is very often referred to as ‘painting with scissors’.
Traditional paper-cutting has manifested
itself in many ways, from the decoration of Samurai warrior's swords to
China's widely practiced art of Origami.
First
becoming popular in Italy and France during the 17th and 18th
centuries, Decoupage became a recognised style of decorating furniture.
Illustrations of anything that could be mustered
were cut out and glued onto possessions such as jewelry boxes, fans, screens
and lamps.
After much popularity in Victorian Britain,
the art of
Decoupage went into decline. It has recently
been revived and now Beechwood Gallery has what is probably the largest
collection in Wales. We can provide all the
materials you need, in large and small quantities, and run regular classes
for both groups and individuals.
